Since the logo could not be designed in gradient colour too much - due to the usage of the logo that may cost some difficulties to be 'printed' on corporate T-shirts and others - the ideas of having 'emerging' images resembling the dragon boat race between the contents and gradient of background colours are implemented. The actual size of the backdrop is 16 feet (width) x 8 feet (height), while the size of the bunting is 2 feet (width) x 6 feet (height).

1M KL International Dragon Boat Fest 2011 Logo Design
Trying one's best to keep the idea to 4 colours, but towards the mid of reviewing process, it was decided to have the gradient of golden colours to bring out the best in the dragon. Yet, in the end, back to solid colour and red was finally chosen to create a 'strong' emergence of the dragon. Using as many icons known to identify dragon boat race, the use of multiple colours is still required. 'Rigid' design is balanced with dynamic brush strokes in this design.

UCSIU BizPlan Competition Logo Design
It was a 'slow sale' during the first month after this project kicked off. Even the designers team started to quit on this job. With little time spent experimenting the 2 organisers' logos, the competition logo was produced! Rakan FSPU Logo and Letterhead Design
Having an 'arts-based' client who is particular about design, with his own idea of how the logo should look like, it was quite a challenging job to achieve the required quality and creativity. Logo for a Rock Band

DCmates Logo Design
The theme colour for this band is the same as their alumni theme colour, since they came from the same background - black, red, yellow and white. Using this combination of colours, an electric guitar as the main object of interest, and a "rocky" 3D look, a logo was born. It started off as a 2D doodle on a servlet, followed by tracing of a guitar outline (guitar image randomly picked from Internet search), and finally the 3D look was 'embossed' in Illustrator itself. Colour combination was a bit tricky that the band leader's suggestions were required during the final rendering (and testing) process.

Nokia N76 Design Challenge

N76 Mobile Phone Design
There were about 5 ideas during the brainstorming session, 3 ideas were put into work, and only 1 design work was submitted and approved for public voting list. The first idea was the one successfully went through the whole process - with the theme of "green on black". The different tones of green were used for different sections on the mobile phone, for certain purposes. The overall 'striking' green-on-black achieved its main purpose to ease the users to see their phones in the dark.

3D Presentation of a Kitchen Design for PV6
A 3D presentation was designed for a medical doctor's new residential in PV6, Kuala Lumpur. The purpose was to suggest to the client on the overall layout for her kitchen, and to facilitate the communication with the contractor. Two drafts were presented before getting the right idea for the finalised design (shown below in sequence).

3D Perspective of a Telco Kiosk
A 3D perspective of a telecommunication sales kiosk was designed upon request from a prospect client. A photo of the kiosk was given as sample, which was scanned and cropped (to get the images for the booth and the display monitors). Further design in 3-dimension was done in 3D Studio Max, inclusive of a short fly-out video around the kiosk. All these were done within 3 hours, with little experience in hand.

Royal Blue for Vis

Vis-Strategy Website
From the approved logo design of Vis-Strategy an idea came for the site to have the look of "layers of sheets", where the effect of shadows was used to get the required concept. The tip of the "V" was used to mark the edge of the "sheet", as if it's a post-it pin or a blue tape that pastes the sheet to a notice board. Overall look is plain white with royal blue and grey effect, so various pictures and slight animation on the header were required to enliven the site.

Nostalgic Colours for Maritime

Mujur Maritime
Out of 9 drafts for corporate logo, the Client approved a logo with 'nostalgic colours' (as I call it) - the blend of brown, orange and grey. Why I call it 'nostalgic' is because of its 'rusty look'. With the rusty look applied to an anchor, the Mujur Maritime corporate logo was born. As for the website, a mixture of brown and orange was used for the menu bar, and other background (and filler) images are applied with grey tone.

This logo was designed purely in Adobe Illustrator, using the path creation and 3D effect tools. The 3D symbol represents the character V with a 'dot' for letter "i". Simple and straight to the point, it symbolizes the growing system consultancy firm that serves the known companies in both government and private sectors.

Construction News & Views - New Look 2008
Mission: to have a minor change of look on the front page. The requirement was to remain the KL-city silhouette but change the rest of the look. I tried to escape from the normal bluish, reddish and purplish scheme we normally had. The approval went for this draft of green-and-orange blend. All tasks (except image-editing) were done in Illustrator, including the graphs.

Arabes Mosaic to Represent Culture

Al-Murabahah Technologies
With the requirements from the Client that includes Arabes mosaic design as the header and footer background, this website design is produced. The mosaic was manually drawn in Photoshop, and the logo was redrawn in Illustrator. Animation in header is done using ImageReady. During the initial stage, two versions were made: green theme and purple theme, in which the colour of the logo has to be adjusted for better contrast.

"Out of normal scheme and colour," that was the requirement. The background for this CD label is from a project that used the system (Jin Mao Building in Shanghai), and some other related pictures such as measurement ruler, drawing and other stationery. The original colour of the Jin Mao's internal lighting, which is bright yellow, is remained. "No more blue!" as required...

Initials to Represent Self

Personal Identity
Just as how Superman has his own initial "S" on his chest, I created my own personal identity using my initial "SI", back when I was in school, without any skill in Adobe Photoshop. The original design was much more curvy than this sample here, and it was supposed to look more like "dal segno" sign (a symbol in music). The initial colour theme chosen were green and yellow to represent my home state - Kedah. The black background was to outstand the symbol. After a few years, I changed them to blue tones to use as wallpaper, alongwith my full name. I will redesign the original idea once I get the chance.

SwimLife Logo and Identity
This logo was designed using outlines on a real photo of a swimmer, and making use of the waves and splashes of water to create the name. The colour blue was used to relate the logo with "water". It was thought to be a great idea, yet it didn't turn out so well, at least not for a "logo".

ID Card Design
This is an archived collection of my designs for teachers' identity card, made in 2004. I did a variety of designs, which are mainly in white background, since the original ID card was in such state. One of the design made use of the red lines in from pattern in the original logo. The final two were the selected ones - the blue theme for a individual ID, the turquoise theme for a group ID.

Naming the concept as "photogenic", where the images or photos (including icons and thumbnails) viewed in this layout would be "framed" as a real photos would be. Silhouette effect

Construction News & Views - New Look 2007
Mission: to have a minor change of look on the front page. I figured that we could use some purple silhouette effect on images related to construction works. The images used for the silhouette (that were personally photographed) are of Kuala Lumpur city centre captured from Lorong Binjai, 2 quantity surveyors discussing over an office work, a lady quantity surveyor viewing the drawing plan, and a construction worker at site working on the steel structure of columns. I've made use of contrast colours such as orange-peach with green, to give an outstanding impact on the overall content. Despite that, a little icon of KL Twin Towers is used for Project Overview section to match the front-page silhouette theme.

DalasNet2 concise brochure
It is all about using the maximum features Microsoft Word provides. This brochure was created in half a day, providing the content was prior prepared. All design was created in Microsoft Word, from adjusting shape and gradients, to transperancy of colours. This particular file was created to allow other users (non-designer) to ammend its content without touching the background design. It is simple, since it was an urgent production. Only first page was in full colour, while the rest is left with a lot of blank space for full content.

DalasNet2 marketing brochure
It is a 1-fold A3 sized publication. I tried to use the rounded corners and gradient effect with flare tool in Adobe Illustrator, for the design. The brand name was created spontaneously, by adding the golden colour "2" onto the word DalasNet, which was already in used in the system. Since this was produce in a very limited time, there are no screen shots of the software prepared for the content.

As a 1-fold A3 sized publication, this brochure was designed and written by me, with advice from the managing director. The concept was to relate how IT is used in a construction-based company. Thus, the colour scheme was expected to be free from the shadow of the corporate colour - blue. With heavy watermark images in the coloured background, the design for this was planned to outskirt the presented contents. The reason was not to let the images outshine the information.

The corporate newsletter is a 1-fold A3 sized. In order to get out of the corporate blue look, I tried to use rather unusual colour, starting with green. I've used the concept of overlayed outlined shapes to create the header image, using Adobe Illustrator. Overlaying multiple colours on top of the original design, saved my time in producing multiple coloured themes.

Construction News & Views draft 1
The corporate newsletter is a 1-fold A3 sized. Since the corporate colour of the firm is blue for both DLS and JUBM, I figured that it would be more appropriate to have a touch of blue in the corporate newsletter. DLS corporate colour has a trait of red as well as dark blue, thus the design was enhanced with hairlines and title fonts of red in colour. Construction-based newsletter might as well has a watermark image of constructed building, as how it was used in the header of the newsletter first page. I tried to get out of the squarish blocks, by creating smooth, rounded corners of blocks in the background.

Presenting the expectations on the employees
Presenting a serious matter that caused management dilemmas requires a simple metaphoric image. A photo of a manager pondering over a thought in an empty boardroom has caught my interest to use it as a theme. The theme is nature, since the person requesting for this site is a veterinary doctor cum lecturer. Coincidently I joined the family day event in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, which include a day tour in the Safari Park; thus I could capture some photos of nature and animals of the wild to be used in the website design. Cema Technology
In my effort to get a clean-cut look of a shiny CD, turned out to be a good motive for Cema Technology corporate logo design. The CD was cut off to represent a huge capital letter "C", as it embedded a little "c" in the centre to mark the company name - Cema. The corporate colour is red, to match the country of its origin - Singapore. This design was not in use.

AtlesPro is a software for tender document preparation and cost control services, developed in Malaysia and currently used locally as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei and Philippines. With the concept of "click and mortar", the design was to portray the main purpose of the application. Blue theme is quite natural to be used since it is the corporate colour of the developer's parent's company. Yet, slight contrast of reddish and brownish colour was introduced, as the future AtlesPro design peeks in before giving the huge surprise.

MST Inc. was initiated for an assignment under postgraduate studies in University of Lincoln, UK. The plan was merely to to design a prototype. Yet, what is a web design without a logo, right? Simple, neat and clean design

Dalas Technologies is provider for software engineering and software development, based in Kuala Lumpur alongside the parent company, Davis Langdon & Seah International. The design creation started by improving the previous, temporary logo that was based on a globe. From the globe, the transformation turned to symbolise D, and eventually the node was used to symbolise "electronically efficient". I maintained the colour blue that is the corporate colour of the parent company. I also tried to maintain red which is the second corporate colour, yet it did not succeed to the final, approval stage of the design.
